Books-And-Authors.net: Where did you grow up and was
reading and writing a part of your life? Who were your earliest
influences and why?
Wayne Madsen: I grew up in the suburbs of Northern New
Jersey and I was a ferocious reader as a child.
Shakespeare was my earliest influence in the world of
literature. No one besides Shakespeare has written so well about
triumphs and tragedies.
Books-And-Authors.net: Where did the idea for the
Moustachio series come from?
Wayne Madsen: The character of Inspector Moustachio was
created by my son, Jake, when he was a preschooler. Later in my
children’s years, I was trying to find something fun and
interesting for them to read and was having difficulty finding
the appropriate series so I wrote it myself.
Books-And-Authors.net: Is the theme of “The Misadventures
of Inspector Moustachio” The greatest gift of life is to
believe”? What do you hope children will learn from the
Inspector Moustachio books?
Wayne Madsen: The theme of the Moustachio’s series is the
power to believe. The most important message I want children to
get after reading the series is that they have in themselves the
power to do anything in life. Like the characters, no obstacle
is too big and no problem is left unsolved.
Books-And-Authors.net: What makes Moustachio series
different from other young adult books?
Wayne Madsen: The Inspector Moustachio series is written
intelligently; it doesn’t pander to children. It makes them
think. And it’s a blast to read. Each book is a stand alone
mystery with clues dropped into each story that the reader has
to gather up in order to solve the overall mystery that travels
through the entire series.
In “The Misadventures of Inspector Moustachio-The Case of Stolen
Time” we meet Jake, Alexia, Rex, and Delbert – Who are each of
these characters and their importance to the story?
Jake and Alexia are the descendants of a long line of
sleuth-solving detectives from the powerful Moustachio family.
They are the chosen ones to carry out the legacy of keeping the
mysteries of the universe safe from the clutches of the evil
Baron Von Snodgrass and the evil forces which guide him.
Rex the cat is the chosen guardian of all that is pure and good.
It’s his job to protect the secrets of Jake’s inherited
magnifying glass.
Delbert is the Keeper of Time and the mentor of the Moustachio
children.
Books-And-Authors.net: What is “The Bell of Time”?
Wayne Madsen: The Bell of Time is a mystical stone
that was discovered on an archaeological dig in the fourteenth
century that stores all events passing through time. To protect
it from falling into the wrong hands, it was melted down and
shaped into a bell and hidden inside the Great Clock for which
it controls all time.
In “The Misadventures of Inspector Moustachio – The Mystery at
Comanche Canyon”, Jake investigates kidnapped cows. One cow has
an ancient map hidden on its inside – What is special about this
map?
The map is an ancient Indian painting that guides Jake and Alexa
to discover an unknown truth in history.
Books-And-Authors.net: Who is Baron Von Snodgrass?
Wayne Madsen: The Baron Von Snodgrass is an evil man who
has been chasing the Moustachio family throughout time. He lusts
to destroy the Moustachio family, gain control of the magnifying
glass, and rule the universe.
Books-And-Authors.net: What kind of feedback do you
get from young readers regarding the Inspector Moustachio
series? What do you hop children will learn from the books?
Wayne Madsen: Children love reading mysteries,
especially when the characters are so true to life. They leave
each book knowing that children have the power to face any
obstacle thrown in front of them. As they jump to the next book
in the series, they take with them clues from the previous book
needed to solve the overall mystery of the powerful Moustachio
family.
Books-And-Authors.net: What’s next?
Wayne Madsen: What’s next – is a new parallel
series that tells the untold story of the second missing
magnifying glass with a whole new family and a whole new set of
mysteries - The Misadventures of Inspector Holmesbee!
